I recently decided to return to guitar playing after a thirty year break. My goal was to take some basic skills and see how far I could grow with a focus on blues style. I started lessons with Jake in June of 2018. He has a passion for music and an energetic teaching style that motivates me to work on improving each week. Jake has a well structured approach to teaching, starting with understanding your current skill level and goals. Over the past nine months Jake has guided me through a series of lessons, each connected to the next, that have helped me build key foundational skills and continuously improve week over week. He mixes quick wins to build confidence and keeps playing fun with technical challenges to improve technique. Jake is a rare find, a great musician (check out one of his shows if you can) committed to working with others to become the best player they can be.

I started as a beginner with Jake a handful of months ago, and I see significant improvements in my playing already. Jake is a professional musician and a patient teacher; he will help you work towards your goals but also provides an enjoyable no-pressure lesson space.

My now 15 year old son has taken lessons from Jake for a little over 2 years. Jake keeps the lessons interesting and engaging, allowing development to progress as quickly as practice warrants. Jake's breadth of knowledge is amazing and it is always funny to have him share the history of blues / rock and roll in terms of songs and influences. Jake focuses on getting you to play songs and then theory gets mixed in over time as it makes sense to discuss. But the theory doesn't get in the way of playing music. Not only does Jake share great insight to music and music history, he also shares thoughts on what it takes to become a musician. My son now has gigs lined up playing locally with different bands as well as his own. Highly Recommended

Jake is an excellent teacher with a gifted approach to making his students truly feel their guitar playing as opposed to technical proficiency alone. His style of guitar instruction will make your playing more expressive and give you more passion to pick up the axe again and again. Also , very versatile in many genres of music.
